Dr. Rosenthal has published articles in, among others, Middle Eastern Studies, The International Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, and the Der Uberlick. He is also a contributor to The Encyclopedia of Islam and The Cambridge Guide to Judaism. Dr. Rosenthal is the author of two books. The Politics of Dependency : Municipal Reform in Istanbul(Greenwood Press, 1980),the general problems of relates urban change and its limits to the general trends of westernization in the Ottoman Empire. Irreconcilable Differences?: The Waning of the American Jewish Love Affair with Israel (Brandeis Press 2001,paperback 2003) traces the evolution of American Jews’ relationship to the Jewish State. It was nominated for a National Jewish Book Award and for a Koret Foundation Award. Dr. Rosenthal is also the recipient of a Danforth Foundation National Teaching Award. He is currently preparing a new course, From the Barbary Pirates to 911:America and the Muslim World.
