Marlene Baldizón is a clinical/applied assistant professor at the University of Hartford GIPP. Her current and assigned courses include Diversity, Psychological Assessment, and Psychopathology. As part of her clinical role, she serves as a clinical child psychologist at the Beit Paley Center for Mental Health Services at Middlesex Health, serving children and youth ages 6-18. Dr. Baldizón also conducts comprehensive evaluations, more recently assessing Spanish-speaking toddlers suspected of ASD. At the Beit Paley Center, she is a faculty of the doctoral training program and supervises practicum students and post-doctoral fellows. She is the former director of the training program and instrumental in seeking and obtaining APA accreditation. Prior to MH, Dr. Baldizón was a school psychologist and school administrator in the New Haven Public Schools where she supervised preschool special education programs, programs for multi-handicapped students, as well as programs for students learning English as a Second Language. Lastly, she served as a school principal for John C. Daniels Magnet School of International Communication, a dual language program. Dr. Baldizón completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Yale Child Study Center where she then served as Voluntary Faculty. She is fluent in Spanish and early proficient in French. She is an avid soccer player and fan.

Interest areas

Dr. Baldizón’s interests are early childhood, play therapy, second language acquisition and bilingualism, and bias-free intelligence testing for English learners. Her clinical skills are eclectic but anchored in cognitive behavioral therapy. Dr. Baldizón is licensed as a clinical psychologist in Connecticut.
