A Frog Hollow Childhood, A Memoir of Hartford has been authored by Lynn Davis (A A&S) of Clinton, Conn. The book recreates a nostalgic childhood reminiscence of the 1940s and 1950s for those who lived during the times and introduces the years to those who didn’t.1970–1979

Pianist David Eberly (Hartt), AD’78 (Hartt) of West Hartford, Conn., performed his concert, Music of the Sun, Moon, and Stars, at the Prosser Public Library in Bloomfield, Conn., in August. He has been blind since birth and played in local orchestras in the area. He is also a member of the Hartford Men of Harmony Barbershop Chorus.

The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA) has appointed John Kriscenski (M Barney), M’12 (Barney) of Farmington, Conn., to serve on its advisory council representing its Educators Group. He is an assistant professor of accounting at Central Connecticut State University.

Emcore Corporation, a leading provider of mixed-signal optics products, announced the appointment of Tom Minichiello (M Barney) of Naperville, Ill., as chief financial officer. He most recently served as senior vice president, chief financial officer, treasurer, and secretary for Westell Technologies.

DeCurtis Corporation, which provides proximity-based guest experience solutions to the cruise industry, announced the appointment of Joe Carino (M Barney) of Cary, N.C., as chief financial officer. An accomplished financial executive, he will be responsible for leading the company’s global financial operations.

Kevin Bechard (Barney), M’02 (Barney) of Bristol, Conn., is the new dean of business and outreach at Berkshire Community College. He came to the college from Manchester Community College where he was faculty and department chair of business, paralegal and technology.
Artist, animator, and writer Erica Schultz (A&S) of Edison, N.J., has signed on to be a member of the faculty at The Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. She is best known for writing the 2018 Daredevil Annual for Marvel, and both Xena: Warrior Princess and Charmed for Dynamite. Previously, Schultz was an artist/animator for Continuity Studios.

2002
Rockville High School (Conn.) added Sean Trask (M Barney) of Simpsonville, S.C., to its 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame class. He ran cross country and played baseball at Rockville, and later pitched at RPI. Trask is currently owner and president of Mr. Appliance of Greater Greenville. He has also worked for the United Way and Cigna.

The feature play for the Young Audience Outreach Tour, Best Foot Forward, will be directed by Melissa Firlit (A&S) of Brooklyn, N.Y. The Tour’s mission is to bring high-quality musical theatre to rural and underserved communities. Firlit teaches at various institutions worldwide and has a passion for developing new work playwrights.

Dymax Americas, a leading manufacturer of rapid curing materials and equipment, announced the promotion of Aaron Mambrino (M Barney) of New Hartford, Conn., to the position of president. She joined Dymax in 2001 and has held various positions in the organization, the most recent being global chief financial officer.
2008
Flutist Sarah Holmes (M Hartt) of DeKalb, Ill., was the featured instrumental soloist at the DeKalb Municipal Band presentation of A Musical Trip Around the World that took place in August 2019. She is on the faculty at Northern Illinois University as music catalog librarian and interim music librarian.

West Point has named Brandt Nigro (M A&S), C’09 (A&S) of Cary, N.C., as head coach of its men’s and women’s swimming programs. He came to West Point from North Carolina State where he was an assistant coach. The Bristol, Conn., native was also an assistant at Marshall and UMBC.

An article appeared on sentinelandenterprise.com featuring Fitchburg Public Teen Librarian Colin Welch (Hartt) from Leominster, Mass. In that role , he provides space and opportunity for teens to come together in a welcoming and educational environment. Welch came to Fitchburg (Mass.) after a three-year stint at the Liverpool (N.Y.) Public Library.

A question-and-answer profile on Vanessa Ramales (Barney) of the Bronx, N.Y., appeared on whosay.com. She is currently a media planner at Viacom Ad Solutions and was previously a sales coordinator at Univision. In the profile, Remales cited her favorite thing about advertising as the creativity that goes into creating commercials and content.
2014
The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) will honor Misty Copeland (HON) of New York, N.Y., with its esteemed Trailblazer Award during the organization’s annual “Celebration of the Arts” event. She made history in 2015 by becoming the first black principal female dancer at the prestigious American Ballet Theater (ABT).
2015
Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, Conn., has named Jaclyn Sullivan (M A&S) of Lisbon, Conn., its head coach for boys cross country. The former three-sport athlete (cross country, indoor track, outdoor track) from Southern Connecticut State University, is currently NFA’s indoor and girls’ outdoor track and field assistant coach.
2016
Urban artist and graphic designer Lindaluz Carillo (HAS) of Hartford, Conn., was profiled in the media as she began work in August on a mural on a wall at Impact Academy in Hartford. The mural, along with a related one on another wall of the high school, will display messages chosen by students reminding them to “be brave” and “speak up.”
Robert Owusu III (A’13 Hillyer), (Barney) of Bronxville, N.Y., is a Ghanaian-American contemporary artist and entrepreneur. Also known as “The Thiiird,” he recently participated in a Q&A on frndylmrn.com focusing on his life and work. A neon artist, Owusu has opened an exhibition of his work titled In My Miiind.
Kyle Wernke (D Hartt) of Rolla, Mo., was promoted to a faculty position as an assistant teaching professor of arts, languages, and philosophy at Missouri University of Science and Technology for fall 2019. His conductor experience includes the Willimantic Orchestra, Butler Symphony Orchestra, and Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival.
2017
Caroline Massey (A&S), M’19 (A&S) from Guilford, Conn., has joined the Branford Police Department and has started academy training. She recently worked as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at UHart. Massey also competed as a student-athlete with the Hawks playing lacrosse and soccer.
2018
Former two-time All-America East Conference honoree John Carroll (A&S) of Dublin, Ireland, was one of two former UHart men’s basketball players to sign professional contracts this past summer. The other is 2019 All-America Conference Second Team member George Blagojevic ’19 (Barney) of Geelong, Australia. Both are members of UHart’s 1,000 point-500 rebound club. Carroll signed with BK Nova Hut’ Ostrava of the Czech National Basketball League, while Blagojevic joined the Cairns Marlins of Australia’s National Basketball League.

Ben Yin ’04 (Barney), ’04 (University Studies) and his wife, Rumi Yin, welcomed a boy, Justin Aikumi Yin, on Aug. 13, 2019. Ben is a member of the Barney School Board of Visitors and works in U.S. Enterprise and Strategy Solutions at Cigna.
Nicole Knauth ’11 (A&S) and her husband, Pat Knauth ’13 (Barney), of Seymour, Conn, welcome their second child, a girl, Kinsley Jane Knauth, on Aug. 11, 2019. She joins big sister Skylar in the Knauth family. Nicole is an operating room registered nurse at Bridgeport Hospital, while Pat works in reinsurance solutions at AON.
