Until that time, the Commons, Subway, and Village Market will maintain regular hours for residential dining services and the Sports Center will be open normal hours for use by residential students only. Gengras Student Union and University Libraries remain closed until the University reopens Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Sharon Walsh, co-director of Walsh Taylor Inc., who has worked in the field of special education and early intervention for more than 30 years, will provide an informative presentation recapping federal legislative and executive branch activities that affect Pre-K through Grade 12 education. She will give updates on recent activities of the 113th Congress including updates on the federal budget, sequestration, and funding for education and early childhood programs, and legislation to authorize the Administration’s new early learning initiative.
There is no charge for this “Education Public Policy Workshop What’s Happening in Washington, DC?” workshop. However, you must be registered to attend the program, which will take place on Tuesday, March 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon, in Wilde Auditorium at the University of Hartford. The workshop is cosponsored by the Institute for Translational Research in the University of Hartford’s College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions and the A.J. Pappanikou Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service at the University of Connecticut.
Walsh will discuss plans to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), last amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001(NCLB), and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), last reauthorized in 2004.
Walsh currently provides consultation to state and local agencies (e.g., state education associations, (SEAs), state lead agencies for Part C, school districts, and local early intervention agencies) on the implementation of Part C and Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). She is the Governmental Relations Consultant for the Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children (DEC) and the IDEA Infant and Toddler Coordinators Association (ITCA), which is the national association representing the state Part C lead agencies. Walsh also works as a consultant on the federally funded Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (ECTA) and the Center for IDEA Early Childhood Data Systems (DaSy).
