A blizzard warning goes into effect for our area this evening and Connecticut has issued a statewide travel ban starting at 9 p.m.. The University will close at 3 p.m. today and will be closed all day on Tuesday, Jan. 27.  Classes starting at 2:30 p.m. or later today will not meet. All day and evening classes tomorrow are canceled. An updated advisory on the status of classes and operations for Wednesday will be posted Tuesday evening. During the time that the University is closed, the Commons will maintain regular hours for residential dining services and the Sports Center will be open for use by residential students only. Amid Capeci of Pelham, N.Y. Honored by the University of Hartford

Amid Capeci of Pelham, N.Y. received a 2010 Anchor Award from the University of Hartford during a ceremony held on campus on October 2. An Anchor Award, the most prestigious award presented by the University of Hartford Alumni Association, recognizes alumni who have reached the highest level of professional accomplishments and possess absolute standards of integrity and character that positively reflect and enhance the prestige of the University of Hartford.

Capeci, who earned a BA in graphic design in 1983 from the Hartford Art School, has worked for some of the country’s most popular magazines. He was deputy art director of Esquire from 1991 until 1995. He then became design director of Newsweek, where he was responsible for producing weekly content, as well as special issues in response to major news like the 9/11 attacks and the death of Princess Diana. He has also worked for Rolling Stone and Travel Holiday.

Capeci was one of six exceptional University of Hartford alumni honored during the Anchor Awards ceremony. The awards have been presented annually since 1962.
