In addition to the efforts of individuals to adopt greener living habits, there are a number of groups through which students can work toward a more sustainable campus, community, and world.
Hawk Hall Environmental Residential Learning Community
A housing option for first year students, this community in Hawk Hall works to integrate more sustainable living practices into dorm living as well as working with faculty and staff to increase environmental awareness across campus and in the community. Some of their past activities have included environmental movie nights, hikes, campus clean ups, and working with facilities to address a comprehensive recycling plan for campus.
Student Government Association
SGA is a regular partner in many sustainability projects on campus such as recycling, the residence hall energy competition, and the smoke free environment project.
Our Campus, Our Planet
This opening event for first year students was held on the day before classes begin in Fall 2010. It highlighted how disciplines across the University embrace sustainability and how our individual choices to use our environmental resources wisely and responsibly contribute to a commitment to the community.
This solar trash compactor reduces the volume of trash produced and does not need to be emptied as often as a regular trash can.
