Getting Around Using CTfastrak and CTtransit

Connecticut's transit bus systems are ready to take you to the most popular shopping and entertainment destinations surrounding the University. CTfastrak service is offered seven days a week, arriving and departing from the bus shelter located on campus near Bates House and Parking Lot H. 

CTfastrak Route 153 Flatbush/Copaco (green bus)

The CTfastrak 153 bus travels to Bishops Corner in West Hartford, where you will find dining options ranging from sit downs to fast food. There is also a Whole Foods Market, Walgreen's pharmacy, Staples, and Marshall's.

From there, the bus continues to West Hartford Center and picks up and drops off in front of the Town Hall. West Hartford Center is home to one of the area's most vibrant town centers as well as Blue Back Square, a popular destination offering dining and retail options, including the Cheesecake Factory, Crate & Barrel, Barnes & Noble, and Starbuck’s. 

The bus also stops at Hartford's Charter Oak Marketplace, featuring additional shops and eateries, including a Super Walmart.

Service on this bus operates seven days a week with buses running from 6 a.m.-11:30 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m.–11:30 p.m. Saturdays, and from 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Sundays.

CTtransit Route 56-Bloomfield Ave (blue bus) 

If you're in the mood to take in a movie, outbound buses travel to Wintonbury Mall and Bloomfield Center, which offers a multiplex cinema, pastry shop, CVS, Rite Aid, Dunkin Donuts, and more. 

Inbound buses travel to downtown Hartford along Albany Avenue and Main Street, and are an easy way to reach downtown attractions such as the XL Center, Wadsworth Atheneum, The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, and the new Dunkin' Donuts Park, home of the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats baseball team. The inbound 56 bus also connects to the Bradley Airport Flyer and Union Station, where connections can be made to Peter Pan Bus and Amtrak rail service.. 

CTtransit Route 56 runs Monday–Saturday with weekday service running from 6 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday buses operating from 8 a.m.– 6 p.m. There is no Sunday service. 

Inbound Route 56 buses to Hartford stop on campus at the bus shelter near Bates House and Parking Lot H. Outbound buses to Bloomfield pick up and drop off on Bloomfield Avenue.

How to Ride

Fares on both CTfastrak Route 153 and CTtransit Route 56 are the same: $1.75 for a two-hour pass and $3.50 for an all-day pass. Tickets can be purchased upon boarding the bus, and exact fare is required since the fareboxes do not make change. Both CTfastrak and CTtransit will accept the same tickets, and transfers are free between both buses.
