SGA and the Center for Community Service co-sponsor a day of community service in Hartford during the spring semester for students, staff, and faculty. The Helping Hawks Day of Service is a great way for participants to implement the University of Hartford’s value statement “Committed to Community." Participants engage in various community service projects throughout Hartford.
The University of Hartford strives to provide an experience that supports the overall growth and development of all members of the campus community. Helping Hawks has proven to be a lasting experience that connects each person involved to learning and service outside of the classroom.
Entering our 8th year, we have sought out valuable experiences via local agencies in the Hartford area. This year we are working with several non-profit organizations that have developed worthwhile community service activities for participating students, faculty, and staff..
Helping Hawks is scheduled this year for Friday, April 6. All volunteers are provided transportation and are scheduled to arrive at their designated service project sites between 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon.
University of Hartford students, faculty and staff alike will volunteer at each site between the hours of 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on projects provided by the site. Volunteers will be picked up from each of their site locations and returned to campus between 3 p.m. and 3:30 pm. On campus, each participant will have the opportunity to enjoy a free BBQ and potentially win an awesome prize.
