Upcoming Orientation Sessions

The remaining dates for the 2018 Orientation sessions are as follows:

Summer Sessions 1– 4 have concluded. It was a pleasure meeting all those who attended!

  • Transfer Orientation: Thursday, August 30
  • Summer Session 5: Friday, August 31–Saturday, September 1

If you attended one of the first four sessions, but misplaced any of your packet materials, you can view an electronic version of the student's packet materials. Parent packet materials can be found on the Parents, Guardians, and Guests page.

Orientation Session Schedules

Session 1-4 Schedule

Day 1

Arrival and Registration

Time: 9:00 a.m.–10:15 a.m.

Location: Gengras Student Union

Check in for Orientation, pick up your dorm key and move in for the weekend.

Welcome Program

Time: 10:45 a.m.—11:45 a.m.

We'll show you just how happy we are that you are here.

Lunch

Time: 12 p.m.–1 p.m.

Icebreakers: Hawks Fly Together:

Time: 1–2 p.m.

Time to get to know your fellow Hawks!

Academic Advising I: Introduction to Academic Programs and Advising

Time: 2:15–5:00 p.m.

Introduction to academic programs, advising, and course selection.

ID Pictures

Time: 3:00–5:30 p.m.

Dinner

Time: 4:30—6:30 p.m.

Location: Univeristy Commons

Small group discussions with Red Caps

Time: 6:45–7:30 p.m.

Get to know your fellow Hawks a little better and begin to think about preparing for a successful semester.

Make final adjustments to your classes and receive your schedule for the fall.

Resource Fair

Time: 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.

Learn about the University's extra-curricular programs, support services, and school year activities.

E-Billing and FERPA

Time: 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.

Learn how to sign up authorized bill payers and complete the FERPA requirements for release of information.

Informational Meeting for Recruited or Walk-on Athletes

Time: 10:45–11:15 a.m.

Location: Dana Hall, Mali 2 (First Floor)
Learn about the academic expectations and services, insurance issues, and the code of conduct.

I'm First! First Generation Students

Time: 10:45–11:15 a.m.

Location: Dana Hall, Mali 1 (First Floor)
If you are the first in your family to attend college, learn more about resources available for your success.

Session 5 Schedule

Day 1

Arrival, Check-In, and Resource Fair:

Time: 8:30 a.m.—12:00 p.m.

Location: Gengras Student Union

Check in for Orientation and meal access, browse and mingle with offices from around campus, and check-in to campus housing.

University Bookstore Open

Time: 9 a.m.—6:00 p.m.

Location: Harry Jack Gray Center

From t-shirts to textbooks, the campus store will have you prepared and proudly representing UHart.

Lunch

Time: 11 a.m.–12:45 p.m.

Welcome Program

Time: 1–2:15 p.m.

Students make any necessary adjustments to their schedules, are registered, and receive their completed class schedule for the fall semester.

Liftoff Begins

Time: 5 p.m.

Transfer Orientation Schedule

Meet other new students, get your University ID, learn about meal plans, get your parking permit, and chat with clubs and offices on campus such as University Commuter's Association and Career Services. Residential  students will also pick up their keys and move in.

Hear from transfer students who have walked in your shoes.

Technology, Getting Connected

Time: 3:45 p.m.

Learn about your email account, how to sign into the Self-Service Center (for grades, financial aid, reviewing your bill, etc.), how to connect to the Library to download resources and information, and accessing Blackboard (our web-based classroom portal.)

Financial Aid Presentation

Time: 4:15 p.m.

Learn how the Office of Financial Aid can assist you during your time here, how to maximize your aid and make sure you have all the right paperwork completed.

Student Administrative Services Center

Time: 4:45 p.m.

Get to know this critical student resource as they coach you through important parts of Self-Service, like setting up e-billing, signing your FERPA release, and evaluating and removing holds from your account.

Dinner and Ice Cream Social

Time: 5:30 p.m.
