Late Opening on Wednesday, January 28

In the aftermath of the winter storm, the University of Hartford will open on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Classes will begin at 10:30 a.m.   snow closing guide

Until that time, the Commons, Subway, and Village Market will maintain regular hours for residential dining services and the Sports Center will be open normal hours for use by residential students only. Gengras Student Union and University Libraries remain closed until the University reopens Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Diana Veneri of Prospect Receives Innovation in Teaching and Learning Award at University of Hartford’s Annual Faculty/Staff Kickoff

Diana Veneri of Prospect, an assistant professor of Physical Therapy in the University of Hartford’s College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, was honored with an Innovation in Teaching and Learning Award at the University’s annual Faculty/Staff Kickoff on Wednesday, Aug 29. The award honors faculty members who have shown exceptional dedication, innovation, and effectiveness in their teaching, as well as extensive interaction with students.

Veneri’s teaching focuses primarily on the rehabilitation of adults with neurologic dysfunction, such as stroke, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury; multiple sclerosis; and vestibular dysfunction. To prepare graduate physical therapy students to work with patients in clinical settings, Veneri developed a virtual clinic using computer-assisted learning modules. Over the past five years, she has developed a module to supplement the content she teaches; 14 modules to date. Within each module, students view a series of video clips, and then answer related questions about evaluation and treatment interventions and progressions. The purpose of the modules is to promote critical thinking, clinical decision making, observational skills, and problem-solving abilities.

The virtual clinic has enhanced learning in the physical therapy graduate program so much that students have requested that computer-assisted learning modules be developed for other areas of the curriculum.
