of South Windsor
, office coordinator in the Department of Psychology at the University of Hartford’s College of Arts and Sciences, was honored with an Outstanding Staff Member Award
at the University’s annual Faculty/Staff Kickoff
on Wednesday Aug 29. The award recognizes individuals who are exceptionally dedicated to the University of Hartford and who play a critical role in the success of the institution and its students.
As office coordinator of the Department of Psychology, Oppenheimer is called upon to help with everything from coordinating events to fixing technical difficulties. No matter how busy she is, she finds time to assist students, staff, and faculty in need. Some of her many tasks are assisting adjunct instructors, organizing teaching evaluations, ordering and cataloging materials for psychology classes, and organizing events like admissions days and the departmental colloquium series.
Oppenheimer goes above and beyond the required tasks with her attention to detail. For example, when asked to order a DVD for a class, she will find it for the best price to ensure the department’s spending is cost effective. When she was asked to arrange this year’s pre-Commencement breakfasts, she added mini donuts with the University logo to the menu. Such welcome details are typical of her approach to her work.
Oppenheimer maintains good humor while assisting anyone in need of help. Off campus, she displays the same commitment to community, volunteering for Special Olympics and Crayons for Cancer.
