The University of Hartford will celebrate the inauguration of President Gregory S. Woodward on Saturday, Oct. 20, with a series of events honoring the school’s past, present, and future. Woodward, a native of West Hartford, became the University’s sixth president in July 2017. He has spent nearly four decades working in almost every conceivable role in higher education, most recently as the president of Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

 Events marking the occasion include:

  • Inauguration Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. in the University’s Lincoln Theater. Woodward will be joined by three of UHart’s former presidents: Stephen Joel Trachtenberg, who served from 1977–88; Humphrey Tonkin, who led the University from 1989–98; and Walter Harrison, who retired in 2017 after 19 years as president.
  • Inauguration Luncheon in a tent on the Campus Green immediately following the ceremony.
  • Inauguration Reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the University’s Joseloff Gallery.
  • Fireworks over the Campus Green at 9:40 p.m.

Inauguration Weekend also includes Hawktober, the University’s annual Homecoming and Parents Weekend (see a complete schedule).
