University of Hartford student Amanda Schoen, from Lake Worth, Fla., a senior majoring in English, has been selected as one of five Connecticut student poets to recite their work at colleges and universities around the state in the spring 2013 Student Poetry Tour.

The tour, which is sponsored by the Connecticut Poetry Circuit, began on Feb. 6 in New Haven, and includes a stop at the University of Hartford on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Schoen was selected from among undergraduate college students from across the state to join this highly selective contest.

“Being chosen to participate in the poetry tour came as a great surprise and an honor”, Schoen said. “Following graduation, I plan on attending graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in creative writing.”

Each winter since 1970, the Connecticut Poetry Circuit has sent four or five Connecticut Student Poets on tour to read at colleges and universities throughout the state.

Chartered in 1957 with the mission to be a “private university with a public purpose,” the University of Hartford offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs in the arts, humanities, business, engineering and technology, education, and the health professions. The University’s student body of nearly 7,200 represents 48 states and more than 60 countries. For more information, visit
