University’s Hawktober Weekend to Feature Arts, Entertainment, Sports, and More

Hawktober Weekend, the University of Hartford’s weekend of celebration for alumni, parents, students and members of the community, will take place this Friday through Sunday, October 12 – 14, and will feature a wide array of events, all of which are open to the public.

One of the weekend’s highlights will be the popular National Public Radio show, “Says You!” a game of words and whimsy, bluff and bluster, on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m., in Millard Auditorium on the University of Hartford campus, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. The performance will be taped for broadcast on public radio stations around the country. The show airs on Connecticut public radio stations on Saturdays at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30.

Other interesting activities taking place will be:

The Annual Anchor Awards at the Wilde Auditorium, from 10 to 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 13. The University of Hartford Alumni Association will present annual awards to honor the professional achievements of some of the University’s best and brightest alumni. The Anchor Award is the most prestigious award presented by the University of Hartford Alumni Association.

Midnight Mania, at the Chase Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion, at 9 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 12. Watch the University of Hartford men’s and women’s basketball teams on display for the first time this season.

The 2nd Annual Hog River Arts Festival, on the lawn by the Harry Jack Gray Center, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 13. Browse through the endless array of jewelry, photography, decorative arts, and other projects and displays produced by University alumni.

Musician Spotlight, at the Harry Jack Gray Center, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 13. Enjoy music by University of Hartford alums.

Golden Hawk’s Cocktail Reception, at the Silpe Gallery inside Taub Hall, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 13. This event is for graduates and guests of the class of 1963 only. For more information contact the Alumni Office at 860-768-2401.

Lacrosse Alumni Game, at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium, at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 13. Former Hawk lacrosse players suit up and remember old times. Free to watch. Lacrosse alumni should contact the lacrosse office at 860-768-5203 to participate.

Men’s Soccer Alumni Game, at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium, at 4 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 13. Former Hawks take the soccer field once more. Free to watch. Men’s soccer alumni should contact the men’s soccer office at 860-768-4470 to participate.

A Cappella and Comedy Performance, at the Lincoln Theater, at 9 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 13. Experience the amazing harmonies of the University’s student a cappella groups and the student improvisational comedy troupe.

Hawktober Weekend 2012 will feature a variety of events for family, alumni, and members of the community to attend. Some events require a reservation or have an admission fee.
