Tim Pettus, a University of Hartford senior from Ledyard, Conn., is one of five undergraduate poets selected statewide as 2011 Connecticut Student Poets. Pettus, an English/creative writing major, will join the four other winners on the Spring 2011 Student Poetry Tour, sponsored by the Connecticut Poetry Circuit.

Pettus says he is primarily a fiction writer who has only been writing poetry seriously for two years. After graduating, he hopes to attend graduate school and then teach English and creative writing at the high school or college level.

Each winter since 1970, the Connecticut Poetry Circuit selects four or five Connecticut Student Poets to go on tour to read at colleges and universities throughout the state. Colleges are invited to nominate one undergraduate poet for consideration in this highly selective statewide contest.
