The International Center sponsors a number of programs and events throughout the year for our university community. Many of these are free or at a reduced cost and offer you an opportunity to  meet new people, learn new things, and have some fun!  Check out our programming list as new events are added.

Fall 2017

August 24, 2017 - International Student Orientation Programorientation flags

The International Student Orientation Program for newly arrived International Students. Konover Campus Center, 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Please bring your passport and immigration documents. All new international students are required to attend.


August 28 - 30 SEVIS Certificationsevis logo

8:30-4:00p.m. New International Student Check-in and SEVIS Certification, Gengras Student Union, room 327.

All new International Students must present their passport, I-94 form and I-20 form to the International Center. We will certify your attendance at the University with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service.



September 30, 2017 - Six flags Amusement ParkSix Flags

Spend the day at the largest amusement park in New England. Enjoy the rides and fun at Six Flags Amusement Park in Springfield, Mass. Bring a friend and have a great day!

Please sign up at the International Center before September 25th!

A university bus will leave Konover Campus Center at 11:00 am and is expected to return to campus at approximately 6:00pm.  The cost for the trip, including entrance fee and bus transportation is $25.

Seating on the bus is limited so sign-up soon!!

Students who wish to use their own transportation are welcome to do so, but must still sign-up and meet at Konover Center


October 10, 2017 - Practical Training Workshopopt

Are you graduating in December 2017? The International Center will host an Optional Practical Training (OPT) Workshop on Tuesday, October 10th for those students who will be graduating in December 2017. 

During the workshop, you will receive all the necessary forms as well as complete instructions on how to apply and when.  This will also be a great opportunity to ask questions regarding employment in the U.S. on OPT, the STEM program and the H-1B Visa process.

November 9, 2017 - Thanksgiving Luncheon

The International Center cordially invites you to share the American tradition of a Thanksgiving Luncheon with us. The International Center is hosting its 16th annual International Student Thanksgiving Luncheon on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 11:30 to 1:30pm at the 1877 Club (Harry Jack Gray Conference Center).thankgivng

Please stop by anytime over the two hour event to chat with other international students, faculty and staff and enjoy Thanksgiving lunch with us. 

This is a FREE event!

February 1 - April 18, 2018 - It's Income Tax Season Again!tax

All international students and exchange visitors are required to file U.S. income tax returns with the federal government by April 2018 for the year 2017 if you were present in the U.S. during that year. 

The International Center has purchased a software program that will help you process your return in a easy, timely, and accurate manner. The software will be available at the center on or about February 10.

Please remember that income tax software products, such a Turbo Tax or TaxAct, do not calculate income tax returns for international students or exchange visitors on F and J visas.


February 13, 2018 - Practical Training Workshopopt

February 17, 2018 - Skiing and Snowboardingskiing

Come and spend the day in the sun and snow at Ski Sundown. Join with International Center staff and your friends for a fun day of skiing and snowboarding. You don't have to be an expert to have some fun. First-timers can have a ball!

Sign up in advance for this fun time at the International Center no later than Wednesday, February 8th. The International Center will provide free transportation and donate $20 toward the cost of your ski package.



February 26 - March 3,  2018 - 9th Annual International Weekinternational week

Join the International Center as we celebrate our 9th Annual International Week at the university of Hartford.

Attend an international cooking class or and stop by the Photo Booth at the Study Abroad Fair. Practice your Latin dancing and learn how to dance modern Bollywood style. Join the fun at our Global Village; get your hand painted in henna, step inside a Bedouin tent, and learn about international clubs on campus.

Finish off the week by joining us for our 33rd annual International Festival, featuring great performances (Dance Revelasian and the Sonalee Vjas Bollywood Dance Company), food and music from around the world!

Pick up your “International Passport” from the International Center, GSU 327, and collect a stamp from each event you attend during International Week. If you receive a stamp from 4 or more events*, bring your “Passport” to the International Festival for FREE ADMISSION



March 3, 2018 - 33rd Annual International Festivalfestival photo 2018

It's party time at the International Center's biggest event of the year, our International Festival 2018!

Come celebrate an evening of international cultural diversity. If you like to taste food from around the world, then this is the place to be, featuring ethnic cuisines from 12 countries.

Featuring performances by:Dance Revelasian and the Sonalee Vjas Bollywood Dance Company

Gengras Student Union, North/South Cafeteria

Doors open at 5:00p.m. with buffet dinner served. Show begin at 6:00pm.

Admission: $13 - $5 with student ID - children under 7 Free


Pizza
May 1, 2018 - Pizza Social

Join International staff for our end of the semester Pizza Social. It's a fun chance to  gather with friends and meet other international students and staff.  There will be FREE pizza, chips and soda.
