The United Healthcare Core Point of Service plan is designed for employees to have access to a managed health care plan featuring a contracted, cost-effective network of hospitals, physicians, health care facilities and professionals with comprehensive network benefits as well as the option to obtain services out of network.

The Core Point of Service (POS) plan offers the cost savings of a network based plan yet provides greater choice among providers. Members can opt out of the network and still receive benefits on a cost-sharing basis.

The Core POS plan is comprehensive and covers a wide spectrum of services when accessed through the network. Members who opt out of network and receive coverage from non-network providers under the non-network component of the plan are subject to annual deductibles and coinsurance.

For general plan information regarding both in- and out-of-network coverages as well as member co-pays, please refer to the downloadable Benefits Comparison, which can be accessed at the bottom of the page.

Mail-in Prescription Drug Process

For the convenience of University of Hartford employees and their dependents who are currently utilizing maintenance medications, the Core POS plan offers a mail order program through Medco. The mail order service allows you the advantage of receiving a 90-day supply of medication mailed directly to your home. You pay twice the appropriate co-pay for mail order services, up to a 90-day supply. Your treating physician must write the prescription for a 90-day supply. Medco's sophisticated dispensing operations and computer capabilities are designed to ensure that each prescription is filled accurately and efficiently. Most prescriptions will be processed within two business days upon receipt of request. The mail service benefit provides guaranteed delivery of medication.
