Students within Hillyer College are eligible to earn either the Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies or the Associate in Science, General Sciences.
The First Year Experience
First-year students usually have many questions about college life in general and about course work in particular. While your professors will be available to answer your questions about course work in the classroom and during office hours, you will have another opportunity to get help. One of your first classes will be designated as an "advising section." The instructor will be the academic advisor of every student in that class. This class insures that you will have regular opportunities for interacting with your advisor. Your advisor will help you get answers to your questions about the Hillyer College or the University, provide you with up-to-the-minute information about academic and social events, discuss your academic progress and plans for the future, and help you make a successful transition to college and university life.
The Second Year Experience
A key objective of second-year advising is to help students begin the transition process from Hillyer College to four-year baccalaureate programs. You may continue to work with your first-year academic advisor, or you may choose another advisor who has a special interest or expertise in your future field of study. During the second semester of your second year, you will be put in touch with an evaluator or faculty member at your intended four-year college who will work with you to produce a plan of study for your bachelor degree.
