Frequently Asked Questions

Health and Safety

Masks are optional in most University facilities and settings. Some members of our campus community may feel most comfortable wearing a mask and may continue to do so. Please be respectful of everyone’s choices as they determine what is best for them. The University of Hartford is committed to maintaining a productive, inclusive, and equitable community, and discrimination and other conduct that is inconsistent with our values will not be tolerated.

Masks are still required any time a community member has been directed to wear one by Health Services. Existing isolation protocols will continue in line with CDC guidance: Anyone testing positive for COVID-19 must isolate for at least five days after symptom onset. For days five through 10, masking is still required even once an individual is released from isolation.

MONITOR FOR SYMPTOMS

Be aware of the following symptoms:

  • Fever (100.4° or higher) or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

If you experience these symptoms, please call Health Services at 860.768.6601.

Vaccines and Boosters

COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are strongly recommended, but not required, for University of Hartford students, faculty, and staff. Vaccine status does not need to be updated with the University at this time.

If you test positive for COVID-19, you should notify your supervisor (if applicable), and report your case to the Health Services Team by calling 860.768.6601. A member of the Health Services Team will discuss your symptoms with you and provide you with your official dates for isolation. The University will follow current CDC guidance. The length of isolation will be five days from symptom onset or from the date of your positive test if no symptoms are present. A negative test is NOT required to return to campus. However, you will be required to wear a mask for an additional five days when in the presence of others. This five days is in addition to the isolation period.

In addition, you should plan to notify your close contacts, both in and outside the University, of your positive test. Formal contact tracing and notification of close contacts will no longer take place via the COVID Response Team. We ask that you notify your close contacts so that they can take appropriate action.

If you are notified that you have been in contact with someone with COVID-19, we ask that you follow CDC guidance based on your own vaccination status. CDC guidance for what to do if you have been exposed to COVID can be found here.

Quarantine and Isolation

The University follows current CDC isolation and quarantine guidance.

The length of isolation will be five days from symptom onset or from the date of your positive test if no symptoms are present.

A negative test is NOT required to return to campus. However, you will be required to wear a mask for an additional five days when in the presence of others. This five days is in addition to the isolation period.

If you are a residential student who must quarantine or isolate, you must return home for that period. If that is impossible due to distance, vulnerable family members at your residence, or other reasons, we will work with you to isolate in your on-campus room, and you will be required to use grab and go dining options only (while masked) during your isolation.

COVID-19 Testing

No, there is currently no mandatory COVID-19 testing.
