A - F Complex Tips & Tricks

A - F Complexes are standard suite-style residence halls, housing 6-20 students in each suite. The bedrooms in these areas have phone, cable TV, and high speed internet connections. The basements in each complex have laundry facilities, study lounges, and multipurpose rooms for student use. All complexes have air conditioning in the bedrooms and suite lounges. In A - C Complexes bedroom furniture consists of a bed, desk, desk chair, and a storage unit (either a set of underbed drawers or a dresser). In D - F Complexes bedroom furniture consists of a bed, desk, desk chair, and a storage unit (either under closet drawers or storage baskets in the closet).

  • Did your power go out?
  1. Unplug everything in the room.
  2. Find the single switch breaker (pictured below), usually located to the left or right of the window and HVAC unit*).
  3. Push the switch down, then all the way up. **Only try resetting the breaker once!** If the breaker immediately re-trips without anything plugged in, call Facilities (or Public Safety if Facilities is closed).
  4. Plug items back in one by one. If the breaker re-trips when an item is plugged in, start over with step 1, and leave that item unplugged.
  5. If power isn't restored through these steps, contact Facilities (or Public Safety if Facilities is closed).

*Common Rooms/_21 rooms (221, 321, 421): circuit breaker switch is located in residents' room to the left or right.

  • Is your HVAC unit not turning on?

  2. Check the double switch breaker (pictured below), usually located to the left or right of the window and HVAC unit*, to see if it has tripped. If tripped, push the switch down, then all the way up. **Only try resetting the breaker once!** If the breaker immediately re-trips, call Facilities (or Public Safety if Facilities is closed).
  3. If the HVAC unit still doesn't turn on, contact Facilities (or Public Safety if Facilities is closed).

  • Is your shade not rolling up like it should?

To increase tension in a shade, take the shade off from the left bracket and twist the rectangular edge (pictured below) until desired tension is met. (Note: if tension releases, then repeat, but not as much.)
