CABE is the acronym for the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education. Bob Rader, executive director, and Patrice McCarthy, deputy director and general counsel, for CABE served as guest speakers in school law for all senior education majors at the University of Hartford. They met with elementary/special education majors on March 5, 2013 and secondary English and mathematics majors on March 7, 2013, followed by seniors and graduate students doing their student teaching in early childhood settings.

CABE Visit

The directors provided the big picture of the roles of Boards of Education in school districts in Connecticut and school law at the federal, state, and local levels. The second half of the class was an open question-answer forum which provided the opportunity for all students to ask specific questions relative to their teaching specialty. In the more intimate group of graduate students, they were able to dialogue in an informal seminar format.

CABE Visit

This unique opportunity for our students to receive instruction from CABE leadership on school law was arranged when two center directors from ENHP's Institute for Translational Research  - Suzi D'Annolfo of the Center for Learning and Professional Education and Diana LaRocco of the Center for Public Health and Education Policy met with Rader, McCarthy, and Associate Dean Ball. They explored synergistic ways to collaborate that resulted in class time for CABE.
