ENHP Students Involved in Literacy Event at Annie Fisher STEM Magnet School

Literacy Night at Annie Fisher

Partner school Annie Fisher STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Magnet invited Assistant Professor Theresa Abodeeb to be the guest mystery reader for literacy night. They also invited Abodeeb's students, currently enrolled in EDR 345: Reading and Language Arts Instruction, to develop and run literacy stations for children and parents of children who attend the school. This community event, titled Fall in Love with Reading was designed to promote literacy and to connect community partners such as the University of Hartford and Hartford Public Library in an effort to stress the importance of reading both in and out of the classroom. In addition to the activities at the event, each child was able to take home a new book. It was a valuable learning experience for ENHP students (who are preservice teachers) to collaborate with community and school leaders to put on this event and to promote literacy.
