College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions Partners with the Connecticut Department of Public Health

Pater Kennedy, Chair, Department of Health Sciences and NursingChair of the Department of Health Sciences and Nursing Peter Kennedy, PhD, RRT, attended the first meeting of the Connecticut Health Improvement Planning Coalition on January 31, 2013. The formation of the Coalition is an initiative to improve the health of Connecticut residents. It is supported by the Prevention and Public Health Fund of the Affordable Care Act, through the CDC's National Public Health Improvement Initiative.

According to the initial invitation from the Connecticut Department of Health, Kennedy was invited to represent the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP). Other participating organizations include state, local, and tribal governments, business and industry, community, philanthropic, and faith-based organizations, medical, dental, and behavioral health care, and professional associations. The effort began with a comprehensive State Health Assessment, guided by a technical advisory group of epidemiologists and data specialists. Findings from the Assessment will shape the development of Healthy Connecticut 2020, the long-range State Health Improvement Plan.
