Stacey McCorison is Recognized for Collaborative, Innovative Work

ENHP alumna and first-grade teacher at the University of Hartford Magnet School, Stacey McCorison is a 2010 recipient of a Magnet School Innnovation and Collaboration Award.  Working in collaboration with ENHP, McCorison has found innovative ways to improve the reading comprehension of students in the all-important first-grade year. She conducted research with ENHP Assistant Professor Theresa Abodeeb-Gentile to focus on the explicit teaching of comprehension strategies and the way in which first-grade students have the ability to internalize and use those strategies as they read. McCorison also has promoted blogging as a way to help her young students’ comprehension.

Magnet School Innovation and Collaboration Awards, sponsored and funded by an anonymous donor, are given annually to faculty from University of Hartford Magnet Schools and the University High School of Science and Engineering.
