Master of Education, Early Childhood Education

The following application materials must be filed with the Center for Graduate and Adult Academic Services for applicants seeking the master's degree in education with a n early childhood education emphasis:

  • official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions;
  • two letters of reference from professional or academic sources;
  • completed University of Hartford application for graduate study and application fee;
  • a letter of intent specifying the reasons for seeking admission;
  • a résumé outlining related education and professional experience; and
  • an interview with the appropriate faculty member

For those seeking State of Connecticut certification, submit SAT, ACT, GRE, or Praxis Core Score Report.

For those pursuing the Montessori concentration, evidence of enrollment in or graduation from the Montessori Training Center Northeast.

Deadlines and Dates

Admission into the MEd with an early childhood education concentration can occur for the fall, spring, or summer semesters. The priority filing date is April 15 for summer of fall entry. Applications received after these priority filing dates will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending upon both the quality of the application and the number of remaining openings in the class. The admission committee will review complete applications in the order in which they are received.

Costs of Attendance

Graduate students in the Early Childhood Education program are charged the per-credit-hour rate. The 2017-18 academic year per-credit-hour rate is $570. International students who hold F-1 visas are required to attend as full-time students (minimum of 9 credits). The 2015-16 academic year full-time tuition and fees for international graduate students in the Early Childhood Education program is $8,970 per year. This is estimated and based on the minimum full-time cost for tuition and fees for the fall and spring semesters.
