Teaching Focus

Assistant Professor Claudia Oakes, PhD, teaches a wide range of Health Science elective courses, including Introduction to Gerontology, Introduction to Health Promotion, and Educational Strategies for Health Care Professionals. She encourages students to get involved in activities in the community so they can relate their coursework to real-life situations. Oakes also teach in the Pre-medical Professions Studies sequence.

Professional Interests 

Oakes' research interests relate to senior housing.  She is researching the effect of home modifications on older adults' perceptions of safety and on their ability to age in place.
