Storm Advisory

Blizzard conditions are now impacting our region and a Connecticut statewide travel ban is in effect. The University will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27.  Day and evening classes are canceled. An updated advisory on the status of classes and operations for Wednesday will be posted Tuesday evening. During the time that the University is closed, the Commons, Subway, and Village Market will maintain regular hours for residential dining services and the Sports Center will be open for use by residential students only. John Tapper
Teaching Focus


Assistant Professor JohnTapper, PhD, teaches courses in mathematics, mathematics education, and science education. His focus is on helping teaching candidates learn best practices for teaching math and science. His approach is active, inquiry-based, and centered on the learner. He believes that all students can learn to do mathematics well.

Professional Interests

Tapper has several research interests, but his work is grounded in finding ways to support struggling math learners to be successful. A mixed-methods researcher with extensive work in program evaluation, statistical analysis and phenomenographic study, he believes in exploring learning at both the individual and systems levels. His most recent work includes a multi-level modeling approach to analyzing data on the SimCalc algebra intervention in Southeastern Massachusetts.
