The government (local, state, and federal) is one of the largest consumers of goods and services in the United States. The government agencies and large companies that win the government contracts must subcontract a percentage of that work to small businesses. Expanding sales of products and services through government contracting offers a new avenue of growth for many small businesses.
The Entrepreneurial Center (EC) offers workshops, events and one-on-one business counseling that help businesses to prepare to begin the bidding process and to develop organizational and business relationships that may lead to future contracts.
Every June, the EC co-sponsors the Connecticut Business Advantage Matchmaker Conference. At the conference, small businesses have the opportunity to meet with large contractors and present the goods and services they provide in a series of 10 minute one-on-one sessions. This gives businesses an invaluable opportunity to develop new opportunities and partnerships that can result in future contracts.
