A group of University students will spend their spring break helping the people of Tuscaloosa, Ala. rebuild from a tornado that killed dozens of people in April 2011.

The 30 students and their three advisors will work on projects such as reconstruction, home improvement, debris removal and planting trees. They will also help the community improve its ability to respond to future disasters by volunteering at food banks, free clothing outlets, Head Start programs, Boys and Girls Clubs and soup kitchens.

During their six days in Alabama, the students will also have the chance to visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and to go on the Civil Rights Walking Tour in that city. They will also hear from guest speakers and will receive Red Cross disaster training.
