The following email was sent to faculty and staff by Vice President of Finance and Administration Arosha Jayawickrema on Thursday, Aug. 7.

Dear Colleagues,

I write to inform you about a change in the management and organization of our Information Technology Services (ITS).  The expectations of our students, faculty, and staff for information technology resources have changed rapidly in recent years.  This rate of change is likely to increase in the years to come and it is critical for us to keep pace in order to fulfill the University’s mission.  We have reached the following decision after a review and analysis of the University’s technology resources and needs as well as best practices at other universities.

Effective September 15, 2014, Ellucian, a national leader in higher education technology services, will assume responsibility for the services now provided by ITS. The company, in consultation with the University, plans to hire a Chief Information Officer for the University in the fall.  Our current University ITS staff will have the opportunity to work for Ellucian.  I want to personally extend my gratitude to our current ITS leadership and team for their hard work and commitment to the University.  I hope you will join me in acknowledging and thanking them for the solid technology foundation they have established for us over the years.  Ellucian’s staff and expertise will augment and build on that foundation.

Ellucian is both a software developer (Banner is an Ellucian product) and a provider of technology services, with 2,500 employees, more than 2,400 clients, and 46 years of experience.  The company serves only higher education institutions and includes many individuals in leadership positions with extensive higher education experience.  You can learn more about them at www.ellucian.com.

Ellucian will be able to provide state-of-the-art technological expertise, on-campus technical leadership and staff, and cost effective measures that will enhance our technology-supported capabilities.  Among Ellucian’s major first year projects will be:

  • enhancement of our current Help Desk services to 24x7x365 for students, faculty, and staff;
  • development of a University-wide Strategic Technology Plan aligned with the University’s new Strategic Plan;
  • the start of a multi-year Banner process modernization project;
  • development of a University-wide technology governance system.

As you meet Ellucian staff, please extend a warm welcome to them as our new technology partners.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at jaya@hartford.edu.

Sincerely,

Arosha Jayawickrema
Vice President of Finance and Administration
