Katharine Owens, associate professor of politics and government in A&S, and Natacha Poggio, assistant professor of visual communication design in the Hartford Art School, have received Outside the Box grants from the City of Hartford through the Marketing, Events, and Cultural Affairs Office (MECA) and Livable Sustainable Neighborhoods Initiative (LSNI) divisions.

The artists will be painting City of Hartford utility boxes with original artwork selected by a jury.

MECA's mission is to enhance  the quality of life in Hartford and to support the cultural development of the city "by assisting, promoting, and encouraging artists and arts and cultural organizations and events in Hartford."

Owens will be painting a box on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Brown Street. Poggio's box is at Franklin Avenue and South Street. Painting will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9 and 10.
