The University of Hartford community is mourning the death of Frank Dello Iacono,
a longtime math and statistics instructor at Hillyer College who played an integral role in the founding of the University's successful Summer Bridge program.
“We are all shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of Frank Dello Iacono. He has been integral to the teaching of math and statistics for over 25 years at the University of Hartford,” said Hillyer College Dean David Goldenberg.
“He began teaching as an adjunct faculty member in the Barney School of Business while working at Pratt & Whitney. He later moved over to full-time teaching in Hillyer College, where he has been an extraordinary professor and academic advisor,” Goldenberg said.
“Years ago, it was a conversation between UTC Chairman Harry Jack Gray and Frank Dello Iacono that initiated the idea, and the funding, for a Summer Bridge program,” Goldenberg said. “His focus was always on challenging and mentoring his students and that is how we will remember him. We will all miss him very much.”
The Summer Bridge program brings incoming freshmen to campus for one week during the summer to get a head start on the transition to college. Summer Bridge began in 2009 with a week-long mathematics program for 20 incoming Hillyer College students. By the summer of 2013, Summer Bridge had grown to include 190 incoming freshmen from all of the University’s schools and colleges, with eight different week-long sessions in July and August.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced at this time. If you would like to send condolences to Dello Iacono’s family, please contact Dean David Goldenberg at email@example.com
