Men's Golf Team Scores Top-3 Finish in Carolina
Evan Russell and William Betts finished in the top-10 of the individual standings at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate Invitational to pace the University of Hartford men's golf team to a third-place team finish in the final tournament of the fall. The Hawks combined to shoot 286 Tuesday to finish at 853 for the three-round tournament on the Kilmarlic Golf Course.
Virginia Commonwealth took the top spot in the 18-team field with a 54-hole score of 843.
Sophomores Russell and Betts led the Hawks throughout the tournament. Russell posted a round of 69 during the final 18 holes Tuesday to finish at 209, four strokes under par, to finish tied for fourth place as an individual. In six tournaments this fall, Russell posted five top-five finishes and never finished outside the top-10.
Betts also posted a top-10 finish as an individual at ODU/OBX. The sophomore turned in a 72 Tuesday to finish at 211 for the 54-hole tournament. His three-day total put him at two strokes under par for the tournament, good for a share of eighth place.
Junior Wally Gonzalez posted his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, navigating the course in an even-par 71 strokes. Gonzalez finished at 224 for the tournament.
Freshman Jonathan Malloy and junior Anthony Vecchiarelli each shot 74 for the final round. Malloy finished at 217 for the tournament while Vecchiarelli tied his classmate Gonzalez at 224.
