Gryc Serves as Composer-in-Residence at University of Wisconsin
Stephen Michael Gryc, professor of music composition and theory at The Hartt School, served as composer-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin from May 2 to 10 on the La Crosse campus.
The university's orchestra, symphonic band, and wind ensemble performed eight of Gryc's compositions during the course of three concerts. The wind ensemble and robed choir of La Crosse's Central High School also participated in the residency by performing two of Gryc's pieces.
Gryc worked with all the performing groups in rehearsal and presented a lecture on his work to university students studying composition and theory.
Preceding his trip to La Crosse, Professor Gryc was a guest composer at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where he was present for rehearsals and the premiere performance of his Six Romances after Mendelssohn, a work for 10 wind instruments commissioned by the University of New Mexico.
