Clean Water Project – Design of Wastewater Storage Tunnels
The construction of two storage tunnels, the North Tunnel and South Tunnel, is the largest construction component of the Clean Water Project.  The South Storage Tunnel will be an estimated 28-feet in diameter and three miles long. It will be able to store up to 50 million gallons of sewage until such time as this stored sewage can be treated at the Hartford Treatment Plant. This will prevent raw sewage from overwhelming the plant and spilling, untreated, into the Connecticut River and its tributaries. The South Storage Tunnel will handle sewage from West Hartford, Newington, and Hartford.

Civil Engineering Network Dinner
For the past few years, our ASCE Student Chapter has been focusing on expanding our student’s connection with the civil engineering profession. The Networking Dinner was started as an opportunity for students to speak with civil engineering professionals to gain a working knowledge of the profession and the types of careers they might wish to pursue after completing their education.

The 3rd Networking Reception was held on Wednesday April 2, 2014 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm with 40 professionals and 40 students attending the event.  The reception included a “progressive dinner” where seating arrangements changed for each course of the meal.  This ensured that everyone was able to meet several different people with enough time for a meaningful conversation in each setting.

CTfastrak Tour
CTfastrak is a new Bus Rapid Transit system that will serve travelers in central Connecticut.  It includes a 9.4-mile guideway dedicated to buses that will serve as the spine of the CTfastrak system.  Construction of the CTfastrak guideway began in May 2012 and is scheduled to open for passenger service in early 2015.  Passengers will enjoy a swift 20-minute ride on the dedicated CTfastrak line between downtown Hartford and New Britain, bypassing traffic on I-84 and local streets in this heavily-congested corridor. CTfastrak will provide frequent daily service, operating from early morning until late at night.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get an early preview on the design and construction of the busway by CT DOT.  The bus leaves campus at 9 am and will return around noon.
