Student Clubs and Organizations

The Barney School offers many opportunities to participate in student organizations related to the study programs that are offered, as well as two honor societies, Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi.  The list below describes the Barney School student organizations.  There are also many extra-curricular activities for students elsewhere in the University of Hartford.  See and hear Nateka Scafe tell us how her participation in student organizations has had a positive effect on her college career.

BARNEY LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

The Barney Leadership Council consists of a group of highly educated students that desire to move forward, to seek new opportunities, and to challenge themselves in finding solutions in all disciplines of business.  Members must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA to join and remain in good standing.  Go to the Leadership Council page

THE ECONOMICS/ FINANCE CLUB

GAMMA IOTA SIGMA

The purpose of Gamma Iota Sigma is the professional development and preparation of members for high quality employment opportunities in risk management, insurance, and actuarial science. They also seek to develop members socially and help them to start building professional contacts that will serve them throughout their career.

YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS SOCIETY

This Barney Club unites students who are interested in entrepreneurship and/or management as a career. The club provides an opportunity for students to develop their leadership and management skills in these areas through service projects, such Students for Free Enterprise, and contacts with professionals in the field. Guest speakers share their success stories and experiences and provide opportunities for students to learn and establish contacts. Field trips to companies also give students a picture of how these principles are put into practice. Contact the Management/Marketing Department at 768-4566 for more information.

THE AMERICAN MARKETING ASSOCIATION

The American Marketing Association (AMA) is an international organization dedicated to helping students to: (1) understand the role of marketing in today's society, (2) develop professional marketing skills, (3) practically apply the classroom experience and (4) network with top marketing professionals. Membership in the AMA Collegiate Chapter offers students the opportunity to lead, manage, and participate in a range of activities and programs designed to educate the marketing practitioners of tomorrow. Go to AMA page

THE SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTING STUDENTS

The SAS is open to all students interested in pursuing a career in the accounting field. Activities of the Society will include weekly meetings with representatives of different companies, seasonal banquets, and programs in conjunction with other business clubs.

BETA GAMMA SIGMA

Beta Gamma Sigma is the honor society for outstanding business students. Go to Beta Gamma Sigma page.

BETA ALPHA PSI

Beta Alpha Psi is a national honorary organization devoted to recognize and encourage scholastic and professional excellence for students in the field of Accounting, Finance and Management information systems. This includes providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility. Go to Beta Alpha Psi page.

The Innovator Group
Innovator Group LogoThe Innovator Group was founded in 2012 by a collection of University of Hartford students.  Currently in its probationary period with the Uhart Student Government Association, we seek to fulfill club requirements and become a fully recognized club on campus.  At this time the club maintains a minimum membership with dedicated members. We are in pursuit of building a club where entrepreneurial minds can flourish.  Currently the entrepreneurial experience that comes with Innovator Group is unique in that it is real experience in bringing the club into a functioning part of campus.  Read the club's brochure.  For more information email Eric Hillemeir at Hillemeir@hartford.edu
