Admission Requirements

The Barney School adheres to the standards of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business—International (AACSB) and reserves admission to students showing high promise of success in postgraduate business study.

To assess the potential of candidates for admission, the school looks carefully at scores on the GMAT and performance in undergraduate and other graduate programs. In addition, it will review professional and academic recommendations as well as the motivation of the applicant as evidenced in the letter of intent.

All candidates must:

1. complete an on-line application and pay a $50 application fee

2. send official transcripts of all previous baccalaureate and graduate study,

3. submit two letters of recommendation from academic or professional sources,

4. take and send the results of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)*

5. write a letter of intent and résumé.

*GMAT waivers based on substantive work experience may be granted in extraordinary circumstances. At a minimum, applicants requesting a GMAT experience waiver must have at least 3 years of significant work experience and/or a GPA of 3.0+. Each request is individually evaluated through a personal interview. 

The GMAT examination has a flexible schedule of test dates. Students may call test centers and arrange for individual computerized testing. University code is XBBNR25. Scores are available within a few weeks. GMAT scores are valid for five years.

WAIVING THE GMAT IS NOW EASIER THAN EVER!

Full Admission with GMAT/GRE Waiver

Applicants may waive the GMAT/GRE requirement under the following conditions:

* 3.0 GPA or higher from an AACSB accredited business degree program or from a non-business degree program with professional accreditation (e.g., ABET) completed within the past ten years.

* 3.3 GPA or higher from an accredited four-year bachelor degree program within the past ten years*.

* Five or more years of high-level work experience and a minimum 2.75 GPA from an accredited four-year bachelor degree program*. Applicants should provide details of their experience on their resume.

* Applicant has completed a master, law or medical degree at an accredited university.

* Eligible for a GMAT Waiver Interview with three to five years of substantive work experience. Applicants should provide details of their experience on their resume.

Conditional Admission with GMAT/GRE Waiver

Applicants with a 3.0-3.29 GPA from an accredited four-year bachelor degree program within the past ten years may apply for conditional admission*.

If conditional admission is granted, the student must:

* Complete the following three (3) core courses in QNT601, AC603 and MKT606. 

* Must earn a grade of B-or higher in each of the three courses; and

* Must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for the three courses.

Admission to the MBA program and waiver of the GMAT is denied if any of the above conditions are not met. Students have one opportunity to repeat any of the courses to improve the GPA to 3.0 to be re-considered for the GMAT waiver and full acceptance into the program.

Applicants for conditional admission cannot waive any core courses. Financial aid is not available for students during conditional admission status.

* In all cases requiring a minimum GPA, non-U.S. bachelor degree GPAs must be verified by WES.
