Barney School of Business Inducts Two Alumni into its Board of Visitors Hall of Fame

On October 11, 2017, the Barney School of Business honored two distinguished alumni by inducting them into the Barney School Board of Visitors Alumni Hall of Fame. The inductees, Lisa Shanley MBA’04 and Loic de Kertanguy BSBA ’69, spoke to alumni, students, faculty and staff about their personal and professional challenges and successes.

Kertanguy is the Chairman of JB Martin, a textile manufacturing company established in the United States in 1878 and a subsidiary of the Manufactures Jean Baptiste Martin of France; a company started in the early 1800’s by his great, great, grandfather. Shanley is the Vice President, Regional Chief Information Officer at Trinity Health Of New England, whose anchor hospital is Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. She joined Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in 2012.

Both recollected their time at the University and how it went on to not only shape them for their careers but also as a person. Kertanguy also recalled how he came to the University in the first place after having attended other United States universities as an international student first. While at the University of Hartford, he competed in varsity soccer and tennis. He majored in Economics and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Barney School in 1969.

Shanley received her undergraduate degree in medical technology from the University of Connecticut and her MBA from the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business. Shanley served on the University of Hartford Athletic Development Committee in 2013 and is currently on the Connecticut Hospital Association’s DNS board. She has been a member of the University of Hartford’s Alumni Board for the Executive MBA program. Her daughter, Lisa M. Dickison, is also a graduate of the University of Hartford, receiving a BSBA in management from the Barney School in 2007.

The evening came to a close with the awarding of two student scholarships. These scholarships are awarded annually to two students who have displayed exemplary academics, leadership, and drive during their time at the University, and who are also on similar career trajectories as the two Hall of Fame recipients. The two winners of this year’s scholarships were Katie Bilodeau and Johan Fredrik Eckman. Bilodaeu is an MBA student who teaches, studies and works in the healthcare field, much like inductee Linda Shanley. Eckman is an undergraduate international student athlete who also plays soccer similarly to inductee Loic Kertanguy.

Initiated in 2009, the Hall of Fame profiles the achievements of prominent alumni to provide a source of inspiration for students, alumni, faculty, and staff of the Barney School of Business. Kertanguy and Shanley are the 19th and 20th inductees.
