The two inductees were also honored with the establishment of scholarships in their names, made possible thanks to donations from the Barney School of Business Board of Visitors. The Gonzalo G. Pique Scholarship was awarded to Margarita Oliverez, an accounting major from San Diego, Calif. Chioke Lodge, an MBA student from Bermuda, received the Patrick D. Tannock Scholarship.
Both Pique and Tannock had messages for the students who attended the ceremony. “It all started here,” Pique told the crowd. “It started with the tools I learned here at the University of Hartford and the doors that the Barney MBA opened. The MBA will open doors, but it is up to you.”
“Don’t give up,” Tannock said. “You need to persevere because your time will come. It’s not always your dream job right away straight out of University. If you strive for mastery, instead of mere competence, you will ultimately achieve your goals.”
