Undergraduate Commencement will be held on Sunday, May 192019, beginning with the main ceremony at 10 a.m. on the Campus Green (the large lawn area at the center of the academic buildings and student union). Following the main ceremony, graduates and guests will proceed to separate sites across campus for individual school and college ceremonies.

Graduates report for lineup no later than 9:30 a.m. 

Graduates will line up behind the main Commencement tent (the side facing Mortensen Library). 

All sites for school and college ceremonies are within walking distance from the main site. For those desiring shuttle transportation to the most distant sites, accessible buses will board in front of the Hartford Art School (for those headed to the Sports Center) and in the circle in front of the Fuller Music Center (for those going to Lincoln Theater).

* indicates locations showing a simulcast of the main ceremony. Additional viewing areas for guests wishing to be indoors include Hawk Lounge in Gengras Student Union and Mali I and II Lecture Halls in Dana Hall.

Caps and Gowns
Late-ordering instructions
Cap-and-gown pickup will take place 
in Konover Campus Center on Thursday, May 9, 11 a.m.–7 p.m., and Friday, May 10, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Advance pickup on May 9–10 is highly recommended. However, If you are unable to pick up cap and gown then, you may on Commencement Weekend, also in Konover Campus Center— Saturday, May 18, 8 a.m.–3 p.m.; and Sunday, May 19, beginning at 8 a.m. A standard tassel based on academic discipline is provided with your cap and gown. Souvenir tassels in school colors may be purchased as an option when picking up your cap and gown for $7 each (cash or credit card). Eligible graduates may purchase honors cords for $10 (cash or credit card). Following school and college ceremonies, graduates should return gowns (caps can be kept) to designated areas at each school/college ceremony site (those who used the ship-to-home option should ship back as instructed using the provided return label).

Legacy Medals for Students with Alumni Relatives
Legacy students are those who have grandparents, parents, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, or uncles who have attended the University of Hartford. We believe these relationships deserve special attention and have created a University of Hartford Legacy Medal to be worn with your Commencement regalia. The Office of Alumni Relations will contact legacy students directly with further details.

Tickets
Tickets are not required to attend Commencement, with the exception of The Hartt School’s ceremony in Lincoln Theater. 

Information for Guests with Disabilities/Handicapped Parking
Lot K, adjacent to the main tent, has been reserved for handicapped parking. Please mention your special needs to the public safety officer upon entering campus. For those requiring shuttle transportation, accessible buses will board in front of the Hartford Art School (for those headed to the Sports Center) and in the circle in front of the Fuller Music Center (for those going to Lincoln Theater). Golf carts will offer additional assistance to transport guests with mobility limitations. 

Interpreters
A sign language interpreter will be present at the main ceremony. Please email us or call 860.768.4260 a minimum of 10 days in advance if you wish to arrange for seating near the interpreter at the main ceremony or to request an interpreter at one of the individual diploma presentation ceremonies.

Food
A food concession tent will open at the main site at 8 a.m. Einstein Bros Bagels, on the main floor of Gengras Student Union, will be open from 8 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Starbucks, located in the Goodwin Cafe in Mortensen Library, will be open from 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Public Transportation
The University of Hartford campus is served by CT fastrak with hourly stops at the bus stop near the entrance to campus. Sunday schedule

Flowers
The Commencement Group, a company authorized by the University of Hartford, provides UHart graduates and guests the convenience of purchasing bouquets on campus during Commencement Weekend. Flowers may be purchased at two separate locations at the ceremony site or can be ordered in advance and picked up at these same locations. 

Residence Halls
Residence Halls will close at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.

Do Not Bring List
To ensure the enjoyment and safety of all guests and graduates, the following are prohibited from campus during Commencement:

  • Alcohol
  • Animals (with the exception of service animals)
  • Artificial noise makers
  • Backpacks, duffel bags, or tote bags
  • Drones or unmanned aerial systems 
  • Glass bottles
  • Large containers or coolers
  • Stadium chairs or personal seating options
  • Weapons, explosives, or fireworks of any kind

The throwing of objects is also strictly prohibited as is smoking in University buildings and within 25 feet of doorways, tents, and seating areas. We thank you for your cooperation.
