Undergraduate Commencement will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2019, beginning with the main ceremony at 10 a.m. on the Campus Green (the large lawn area at the center of the academic buildings and student union). Following the main ceremony, graduates and guests will proceed to separate sites across campus for school and college diploma presentations.
Graduates report for lineup no later than 9:30 a.m.
Graduates will line up behind the main Commencement tent (the side facing Mortensen Library).
All diploma presentation sites are within walking distance from the main site. For those desiring shuttle transportation to the most distant sites, accessible buses will board in front of the Hartford Art School (for those headed to the Sports Center) and in the circle in front of the Fuller Music Center (for those going to Lincoln Theater).
A simulcast of the main ceremony will be shown at multiple locations on campus. Vehicles will be restricted from traveling on campus roads at certain times.
Legacy Medals for Students with Alumni Relatives
Legacy students are those who have grandparents, parents, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, or uncles who have attended the University of Hartford. We believe these relationships deserve special attention and have created a University of Hartford Legacy Medal to be worn with your Commencement regalia. The Office of Alumni Relations will contact legacy students directly with further details.
Tickets are not required to attend Commencement, with the exception of The Hartt School’s diploma presentation ceremony in Lincoln Theater.
Information for Guests with Disabilities/Handicapped Parking
Lot K, adjacent to the main tent, has been reserved for handicapped parking. Please mention your special needs to the public safety officer upon entering campus. For those requiring shuttle transportation, accessible buses will board in front of the Hartford Art School (for those headed to the Sports Center) and in the circle in front of the Fuller Music Center (for those going to Lincoln Theater). Golf carts will offer additional assistance to transport guests with mobility limitations.
A sign language interpreter will be present at the main ceremony. Please email us or call 860.768.4260 a minimum of 10 days in advance if you wish to arrange for seating near the interpreter at the main ceremony or to request an interpreter at one of the individual diploma presentation ceremonies.
Residence Halls will close at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.
Any undergraduate students with pending judicial charges, including those stemming from inappropriate behavior during Senior Week, will not be allowed to participate in Commencement or to receive their diplomas. It is also possible that students who did not file their degree applications on time may not receive a diploma on Commencement Day. Diplomas are withheld if a student has not satisfied all of the academic requirements of his/her degree or if a student has a Bursar’s restriction. In both cases, students will be allowed to attend the ceremony, but will receive blank diploma covers. Graduates not attending Commencement should call 860.768.4517 (or 768.4969) and arrange to pick up their diplomas in the Registrar’s Office the following week. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Diplomas not picked up by May 31 will be sent via certified mail to the address provided on the degree application.
Reception for the Class of 2019
Graduating members of the Class of 2019 and their immediate families are invited to attend a graduation reception, hosted by the Alumni Association. It will be held on Saturday, May 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the North and South Cafeterias, located in the Gengras Student Union. Graduates will be welcomed into the Alumni Association and will have the opportunity to celebrate their achievements.
Smoking on Campus
Smoking is prohibited in all University buildings and within 20 feet of doorways. Outdoors, smoking is not permitted within 20 feet of tents and seating areas. The entire Harry Jack Gray Center quad area is smoke free. Thank you for your cooperation.
