Juliet Williams

Here at the University of Hartford, I have made the best of my undergrad studies. I was able to meet other students and make relationships that I will cherish forever. I was advised by faculty and staff who saw more potential in me than I saw in myself. Now, I am a graduate from the University of Hartford, University Studies "BUS" Program and I'm very proud. Thanks University of Hartford!

Choosing to return to school wasn't an easy choice. I had to take on two minimum-wage jobs to provide for my family and it was still a huge financial sacrifice. It was important that I returned to school to keep up with today's job market. I chose the University Studies Program with a focus in Human Services. I was on the Dean's List every year and graduated with honors.

Going back to school at the age of 43 to work on my BA Degree at the University of Hartford was a scary step. I knew that in addition to working full-time, getting a degree would require long hours of homework and classroom instruction. After moving to Texas, my advisers worked quickly to come up with a plan... and I was still able to complete my degree online and graduate with my fellow classmates.

After putting my education on hold for a long time to raise a family, I was introduced to the Bachelor of Arts in the University Studies Program here at the University of Hartford. It was difficult to balance family and a full-time job, but the University Studies Program gave me the chance to finish my degree without feeling pressured. Today, I take pride in knowing that I have gained a degree.

Graduating with my degree in University Studies from the University of Hartford has been an amazing process. I was a student at the University of Hartford over thirty years ago, but for various reasons never graduated. That had always been something that not only bothered me, but held me back both personally and professionally. At the age of fifty, I made one final attempt to see if a degree was even possible after all this time. To my amazement, the answer after some checking was a resounding “YES!” I had no idea what to expect but the caring people within the University Studies program had me registered and on my way within a few short days! It is now nine months later and I have completed my degree. The support and encouragement along the way kept me going. I never could have done this on my own and owe a debt of gratitude to the incredible people within this program that helped me realize my dream!

The Adult Academic Services at the University of Hartford provided me with the opportunity to continue my education, even with a busy work schedule, which requires frequent travel. The Academic Advisors are the best; they helped me define my Degree, worked with my busy schedule to get the classes I needed, and continued to follow up with me to see how I was doing. With the continuous care and assistance from my Advisor Karen Sullivan, I was able to achieve my Goal and Graduate Magna Cum Laude.

After graduating from the University of Hartford, I became an Immigration Paralegal in a private law firm in Hartford, CT. Along with assisting immigrants to petition for their relatives abroad, I am responsible for assisting immigrant professionals from all over the world to receive training in the United States. Knowing that my job unites families and allows individuals the opportunity to gain new experiences is my biggest reward. The education and values I received from the University of Hartford made me a valuable employee and a better person in all aspects of my life.
