Since 1962, the University of Hartford Alumni Association has presented annual awards to honor alumni of the University. These awards, presented during Fall Weekend, are the highest tribute conferred by the Alumni Association.

The selection committee wishes to ensure that it has the most comprehensive slate of qualified nominees. Therefore, nominations are invited from the University community, including deans, faculty, and alumni, according to the following guidelines:

Distinguished Alumni Award
The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed by the University of Hartford Alumni Association. This award is given to alumni who have achieved extraordinary distinction in their chosen field. Individuals must be a graduate of one of the schools/colleges, or predecessor institutions, of the University of Hartford. This award is presented at the Spring Commencement Ceremony.

Anchor Award
The ship’s anchor located on the University campus has a rich history. Originally positioned on the USS Hartford, the flagship of Admiral David G. Farragut, the Anchor now represents a longstanding tradition of the University of Hartford.

The Anchor Award is the most prestigious award presented by the University of Hartford Alumni Association. The awards were established to recognize alumni who have distinguished themselves by acheiving the highest level of professional accomplishments and who possess absolute standards of integrity and character to positively reflect and enhance the prestige of The University of Hartford.

A single Anchor Award is given from each school/college. Individuals must be a graduate of one of the schools/colleges, or predecessor institutions, of the University of Hartford.

University of Hartford Under Forty Award
The Alumni Under Forty Award highlights the next generation of alumni leaders. Honorees are individuals under the age of 40 who demonstrate dynamic leadership and social responsibility. Our Alumni Under Forty recipients are passionate about their profession and service to the community.

A single Alumni Under Forty Award is given from each school/college. Individuals must be a graduate of one of the schools/colleges, or predecessor institutions, of the University of Hartford and under forty years of age. Award recipients are recognized in The Observer and are invited to be guests of the Alumni Association at the Anchor Awards Ceremony.

Humanitarian Service Award
This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding meritorious contributions of state, national, or international significance to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of human welfare. Recipients have demonstrated exceptional dedication to selfless service and have taken personal responsibility for serving the communities in which they live.
