Alumni Board ENHP Liaison

The College/School Liaison serves as a bridge between the Alumni Board and the volunteer Board of each respective school/college. As such, the Liaison is charged with sharing information about alumni programs and volunteer opportunities between Boards; communicating the mission/goals of the Alumni Association to the school/college volunteer Board, and vice versa; cultivating new alumni relationships and deepening existing ones; and adding value to the relationship between the University, its schools/colleges and its alumni through events, programming and life-long learning opportunities. The Liaison is an ambassador for the University, the respective school/college, and the Alumni Association and, as such, is an advocate for all.

It is also expected that each member of the Alumni Board will be an annual donor and supporter of the UHart Impact Fund and, if possible, make a leadership gift.

Description of Responsibilities

  1. Board Participation

    • Attends and actively participates in Board and assigned Committee meetings, reporting via the consent agenda on the mission/goals as well as the alumni activities of the respective school/college

    • Serves as an ad hoc member to the volunteer Board of the respective school/college

  2. Liaison Role

    • Maintains regular contact with the Dean, development officer, and volunteer Board of the respective school/college

    • As an active partner with the Alumni Relations staff and designated Alumni Board members, encourages communication and collaboration between the volunteer Board of the school/college and the Alumni Association regarding alumni outreach, activities and programs

    • Assists in the identification, recruitment, training and acknowledgement of alumni volunteers

    • Encourages the Dean and development officer of the respective school/college to nominate alumni for annual awards (Anchor and Distinguished Alumni) and volunteer leadership positions on the Alumni Board

  3. Outreach
    • Supports efforts to communicate Alumni Association efforts and activities to the University and alumni communities

    • Regularly attends University of Hartford and Alumni Association events

    • Identifies potential alumni volunteers, sharing information with staff and other Board members

    • Uses every opportunity to widen and deepen the circles of alumni engagement and support in the life of the University

    • Serves as an advocate and ambassador for the Alumni Association and the University of Hartford

Summary of QualificationS

The College/School Liaison should be an alumna/us of the University who has demonstrated previous volunteer experience and an interest in making connections between alumni. Familiarity with the priorities of the University of Hartford, the Alumni Association and the respective school/college are essential. Proven leadership in the University community and strong communication, presentation and public speaking skills are also beneficial. S/he should also demonstrate a superior ability to build and sustain strong relationships with alumni and other members of the University community, both on and off campus.

The term of office for the College/School Liaison is three years, beginning July 1.

The College/School Liaison is expected to attend all meetings of the Alumni Board of Directors. S/he will also regularly participate in alumni programs. Finally, it is expected that regular, on-going consultation and collaboration with Alumni Relation staff, as well as the Development Officer and volunteer Board for the respective school/college, will continue throughout the year
