In a touching tribute to one of President Harrison's favorite baseball players, the late Roberto Clemente, who spent 18 seasons playing as a right fielder for President Harrison's beloved hometown major league baseball team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Faculty Senate presented him with a contribution in his name to Roberto's Kids, an organization devoted to nurturing social responsibility by using baseball to bridge the gap between different cultures.
"The Faculty Senate was pleased to recognize President Harrison's achievements and to honor him for his 19 years of service," says Faculty Senate Chair Anne Pidano. "Knowing that he is a major league fan, we gifted him with baseball-themed mementos as an opportunity to thank him for his dedication to the University."
The Faculty Senate also presented President Harrison with an "official" University of Hartford baseball shirt garnering the number 19 to recognize his years of service, and his own personalized career baseball card, complete with his achievements serving as statistics, including his formation of the President Walter Harrison Endowed Faculty Development Fund designed to support, "the many exceptional faculty who embody Walter Harrison's love of teaching students, and the University", as well as a number of other interesting stats, such as the fact that he's congratulated more than 30,000 graduates during his presidency.

Started in 1995 with President Tonkin throwing out the first pitch, and continuing with many games where President Harrison played the full game, the tradition of the ANNUAL SOFTBALL GAME OF STUDENT V. FACULTY/STAFF has continued.
Faculty Senate has gathered some pictures of those 20 years for your enjoyment. The last part of the clip shows this year's event. With beautiful sunshine, great food, and a great game, everyone was a winner. It was wonderful to spend a few minutes in the sunshine with co-workers and friends.

Thanks to ARAMARK for supplying the food; UH Print Services for the T-shirts, all those who participated in the game and the enthusiastic spectators. See you all next year!
