David H. Goldenberg

David Goldenberg, EdD<br>Hillyer College, Dean <br> College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, Interim Dean

David Goldenberg, named dean of Hillyer College in the summer of 2001, is the first University of Hartford graduate to serve as a dean of one of its schools and colleges. Goldenberg, who also served as interim vice president for external relations for six months (November 2001 to May 2002), is also currently serving as interim dean of the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions.

Originally from West Hartford, Conn., Goldenberg is a 1973 graduate of Hillyer and a 1976 graduate of the Barney School of Business. He also holds a master’s degree in education from the University. While a student, Goldenberg served as a member of the Board of Regents, was an active campus leader, and even met his future wife while both were UH students.

After graduating from the University of Hartford, Goldenberg earned a doctorate in higher education administration at Illinois State University and completed postdoctoral studies at Oxford, Harvard, and Cornell Universities. Prior to coming to the University of Hartford, he was the chief executive officer of Penn State University at Mont Alto, one of 12 regional campuses of Commonwealth College, Pennsylvania State University’s largest college. There, he increased the campus endowment by 600 percent and presided over a period of record enrollment.

Goldenberg also spent six years as the executive dean of The Sage Colleges and as dean of Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. He has 28 years of experience as a teacher, scholar, and administrator in higher education, having begun his administrative career as an assistant to the Commissioner of Education for New York State.

He was presented with the 2000 Distinguished Alumnus Award at the University’s 39th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony.
