Drumming and Festive Garb

Alumni will be led on a tour by current BSU members to view new facilities and other changes to the campus. After the tour on the academic side, a procession will begin, featuring African drums, over the Hog River Bridge to the residential side of campus. This ceremony will pay homage to some of the leaders of the civil rights movement and the efforts put forth by alumni from the 1960s and 1970s to rename several of the dormitories after Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., W.E.B. DuBois, and Marcus Garvey. African drums will lead a procession of former and current members of BPU/AASA/BSU, a libation will be poured, and a short biography of these heroes will be read by alumni and current members.

Date: Saturday, Sept. 20

Time: 2–3:30 p.m.

Location: Meet at Gray Center
