Undergraduate Internships

The Department of Psychology strongly encourages students to explore career opportunities through internship experiences. Students who complete internships develop important applied skills and report that these field experiences broaden and enhance the knowledge learned in formal psychology coursework. Internships often lead to students solidifying their commitment to applied careers in psychology and some interns are offered job upon graduation at their internship sites.

Internships require a commitment of 100 hours of field-based work experience under the supervision of a site-based supervisor and a university-based supervisor.  Internships are 3-credit pass/fail courses. Many students continue their internships across the year or complete more than one internship experience across their Junior and Senior years.

Eligibility for Internships:

Undergraduates who have taken at least three (Juniors) or five (Seniors) psychology courses above the introductory level, and whose GPA is 2.75 or higher, both overall and in psychology, are eligible for internships.

Internship Placements

Students work one-on-one with our University Internship Supervisor, Heather Lagace, LMFT, (lagace@hartford.edu) and Career Services to identify and coordinate internships. Students are provided coaching to help them develop resumes, develop and practice interviewing skills, learn how to contact potential internship sites, and successfully complete internships.
