Mathematics Academic Programs

The Mathematics Department offers undergraduate majors leading to Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics. The BA in mathematics combines a fundamental core of required mathematics courses with the flexibility to choose from a wide range of electives. The BS degree is designed to give students an appreciation of the applications of mathematics to the sciences. Our newest degree, a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics with certification in secondary education is for those wishing to pursue a career as a high school mathematics teacher.


Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree combines a fundamental core of required mathematics courses with the flexibility to choose a number of mathematics electives that help prepare you for a career in business, education, or technology.

Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with Certification in Secondary Education

In recent years, the Connecticut State Department of Education has deemed secondary mathematics a “State certified shortage area”. This Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree is designed to prepare you to fit the need of highly-qualified secondary school math teachers.  Ssuccessful graduates of secondary mathematics education programs are highly employable.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics

The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree consists of a broad range of mathematics courses, as well as a sequence of three courses in physics. The degree is designed to give you an appreciation of the applications of mathematics to the sciences, and if you are interested in graduate work in mathematics or a career in science or engineering.
