William H. Beacham Jr. earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hartford, and upon graduation, began his engineering career at Hamilton Sundstrand in their Electrical Design Department. Initially Bill designed avionic computers, custom digital chips, and electronic engine controls for commercial aircraft such as the Boeing 767 and Airbus A380. Later, in his tenure at Hamilton Sundstrand he gained design responsibilities in test engineering and software systems departments.

In 2001 he earned his Masters of Science degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His MS degree research encompassed using the Unified Modeling Language to define a process to distribute FAA certified flight critical embedded software via the WWW. Bill’s research paper was published on April 21, 2001 in The 17th Annual Computer Science Conference, Rensselaer at Hartford, Conference Proceedings. Bill’s proposed process was developed and tested at Hamilton Sundstrand in cooperation with the FAA.

Pratt & Whitney recruited Bill to lead an Advanced Technology System Design and Development team to develop a new product that incorporated wireless Internet technology, flight critical software, and direct engine control communication to provide remote health monitoring, diagnostics, and prognostics capability. This system subsequently won acceptance on Bombardier’s C Series twin engine, medium range commercial aircraft. Bill holds several patents in wireless engine health monitoring, remote maintenance, and asset management.

As a Connecticut certified Emergency Medical Technician, Bill was a member of Hamilton Sundstrand’s emergency response team, and was also a volunteer EMT for a local town ambulance for 20 years. Bill began teaching Computer Science courses at the University of Hartford in 2001 and retired from Pratt & Whitney in 2013.
