Dr. Mark Blackwell - Department Chair

Dr. Blackwell teaches 17-, 18-, and early 19-century British literature and culture, including courses on Milton, satire, and Austen. He has taught various honors seminars entitled and he has directed independent studies on the graphic novel and on contemporary fiction. Go

Dr. Jack Banks

Jack Banks teaches courses in media, particularly popular culture, television production, and media criticism, and received the University award of Distinguished Teaching Humanist for 2004-2006.  Go

Lauren Cook

Lauren Cook is an artist who teaches all aspects of film production in the department. She has developed a broad array of filmmaking classes, including sound design, documentary film, animation, narrative film, experimental film and cinematography. Go

Margo Greenlaw

Margo Greenlaw teaches filmmaking courses and Introduction to Film. Her films and videos blend documentary with experimental and narrative forms and have screened at festivals throughout North America and the UK.  Go

Robert Lang is a well regarded instructor who has taught a wide range of courses at Hartford, including Road Movies, The Western, Popular Heroes, Arab Cinema, French Cinema, Film Analysis and Film History. Go

Dr. Michael Walsh

Michael Walsh, a Cinema professor since 1986, has been in the Cinema Department since its inception.  He teaches Introduction to Film, Film Analysis and World Cinema, and has developed courses on Alfred Hitchcock, Genres and Genders, and Film and Dream.  Go
